fun Pelvic floor facts for your next party…

Did you know that there are 3 layers of muscle in the “pelvic floor”? Each layer has pretty specific functions and but they all work together for bowel & bladder function, holding things (💦, 💩, & organs) in as well as seggual function.

Muscles can be tight in one area and refer pain to another. The obturator internus muscle can refer to the anus, anterior hip or pelvis, back of the leg, and vagina. People often refer to obturator discomfort as a “golf ball in their anus”.

The female urethra is about 4-6cm long and males tend to have a longer one, averaging about 18-20cm. Female pelvises have 2 extra muscles to help hold in urine. Boys are less likely to get UTIs because of their increased levels of testosterone and longer urethra.

My goal is to have people void every 2-4 (but closer to 3-4) hours. It should be a steady stream and about 8 “Mississippi”s.

You have two anal sphincters. One is automatic and one you can control. When the more superficial/ external one is weak it’s harder to hold in bowel movements.
