POSTPARTUM HORMONES
There are 2 very important hormones during the postpartum phase:
✨Oxytocin:
Most people think of oxytocin in relation to intimacy, however it plays a big role postpartum. Oxytocin stimulates the “letdown reflex” after childbirth, which helps the milk come out. (It’s the cause of that tingly feeling you get just before feeding).
It also stimulates the contraction of the uterus, when breast feeding to help shrink it back to it’s pre-pregnancy size and decrease bleeding.
✨Prolactin:
Prolactin helps promote milk production (while oxytocin helps release that milk). Often people get a relaxing feeling during pregnancy, which you can thank the prolactin for.
