Why see a pelvic PT during pregnancy?
So you’re having a baby! Why see a pelvic PT during your pregnancy?
-Education on how to change mechanics (squatting, lifting, carrying, stairs, etc.) especially if you’re having pain
-Tailored strength training with someone who knows the appropriate progression and red flags to look out for.
-Pain management (sometimes I give people soft tissue work [similar to a massage] for improved pain and mobility)
-Often relaxation and stretching of the pelvic floor muscles (notice I didn’t say strengthening?)
-Birth prep (positions, perineal massage, breathing and pushing education)
-We often refer to many other providers as well. I know a lot of people and love finding the perfect provider with the perfect personality and skills for each person.
** The focus for each trimester is a little different. In the next few days I'll be posting specific things for each trimester. **
Tell us, did you do PT during your pregnancy? We’re always curious how people learn about pelvic PT during pregnancy?
