Pelvic PT Postpartum

pelvic floor physical therapy assistance postpartum

It’s truly a joy getting to treat people postpartum. It’s extra fun when we’ve worked together during their pregnancy. They know the drill! They have a bit of a leg up because they have already practiced and potentially know how to activate their core, perform diaphragmatic breath, have some pelvic awareness, and how to “load their tissues”. We can often push it a little more and a little sooner. Those are things we work on WHILE people are pregnant, which makes it a little easier postpartum. They know how to recognize when an exercise is too challenging and causing too much intraabdominal pressure, because we’ve already worked on it. They know how their pelvic floor should feel and if something is off. This doesn’t mean it’s a lost cause if you didn’t see a PT when pregnant, but it can for sure make the transition back to your body/activity a little easier. Plus it’s fun meeting the tiny human we talked about, for months, in person!
