3 Times Pressure Management Matters

If you don’t know what pressure management is, check back at our last post HERE.

Transfers:

This means, rolling in bed, getting up from lying down, going from sitting to standing…

Try to exhale as you do it. “Blow as you go”. This is really important if you have pain or had surgery as well as if you have a DRA or hernia. This also prevents pressure on the pelvic muscles and oragns which can affect pelvic pain or prolapse.

Exertion/Exercise:

“Exhale with exertion”. If you’re doing an exercise, breathe out with the hardest part. If you are lifting something heavy, exhale AS you do it. This means a heavy purse, a baby, or heavy weights. I tinker with this with really heavy lifters, but in general, breathe out as you do it.

Pooping:

Don’t hold your breath. Breathe through it. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again- “Moo as you poop”. Or at least breathe it out. This allows the pelvic floor to relax in order to best empty. I dare ya to try it- Moo00OO! Using the abs to push everything out while keeping the pelvic floor relaxed is tricky but once ya get it, it’s easy peasy. This is also similar to one way to push when birthing, so it’s good practice.
